In December 2006, I traveled to the
Limpopo region of northeastern South Africa with Aaron Bauer and
South African colleagues to search for rare geckos. We were
very lucky to find a single specimen of Homopholis mulleri
and Lygodactylus waterbergensis, two of the rarest geckos in
the area. We also encountered about 50 other species of
amphibians and reptiles. It was difficult to choose which
pictures to illustrate in the limited space below, but I've selected
some of the more interesting finds.
An impala runs across the road- other
mammals I was able to see included black-backed jackal, white rhino,
wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, and a variety of antelopes from
duikers to waterbuck.
