I participated with an expedition to Guinea,
West Africa in May 2002 with a team from the University of Louisana
(Monroe). Our main purpose was to survey the herpetofauna of
Parc National du Haut Niger (Upper Niger National Park) in
east-central Guinea, but we did some opportunistic collecting along
the way. Click on the links below to see pictures of animals
and events from specific areas of Guinea.

As you can see by these photos, many
Guinean vehicles had safety issues. The large truck on the
left had an accident and spilled its contents all over the road.
The truck on the right is an accident waiting to happen.

These boys are proudly displaying their
dinner- a rodent about a foot long. This photo was taken near
Kindia. On the way there from the capital, our car stopped for a
large troop of baboons that were crossing the road.

Here are a couple more pictures from Kindia.
The gecko on the left is Hemidactylus angulatus. The man on
the right is Dr. M. Cellou Baldé, who is handling a green mamba (Dendroaspis
viridis). Cellou continues to collect reptiles in Guinea for
future collaborative projects.
